з великою радістю повідомляємо, що з 1 жовтня 2026 року стартував наш 12-місячний проєкт із порівняння двох типів магнітометрів на наземних і літаючих безпілотних платформах «Comparative Assessment of the Operational Performance of Optically Pumped and Fluxgate Magnetometers Mounted on Unmanned Vehicles». Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU).

Drones and Robots in the Service of Scientific and Humanitarian Initiatives

Dear friends,

We are delighted to announce that on 1 October 2026 our 12-month project «Comparative Assessment of the Operational Performance of Optically Pumped and Fluxgate Magnetometers Mounted on Unmanned Vehicles» comparing two types of magnetometers on ground-based and aerial unmanned platforms got underway. It is carried out within the Magnetism in Ukraine Initiative (project 9981) of the V.G. Baryakhtar Institute of Magnetism of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, with the support of the IEEE Magnetics Society and the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU).

Professionals from the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the NAS of Ukraine, together with their partner, the Institute of Geology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and with the participation of Fundacja Postup (Poland), the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw) and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, will test how modern magnetometric systems perform in strongly disturbed magnetic fields on mined and contaminated land, what geological information they can provide. They will also assess how well these systems detect very weak (sub-nanotesla) anomalies at cultural heritage sites.

Our goal is to identify the strengths, limitations and noise sources of each approach and to develop practical guidelines for robotic magnetic surveys.

The plan includes tests at a dedicated magnetometric test range, field validation under real conditions, field schools for students and young researchers, as well as publications and conference presentations.
